These earrings are handcrafted in Sicilia, Italy, featuring enameled lava stone tiles with Caltagirone motifs. Caltagirone, one of the eight towns of south-eastern Sicily known as the baroque towns of the Val di Noto, holds a UNESCO world heritage site designation.
 
 The local ceramic technique, influenced and perfected by the Cretans and later the Arabs, is steeped in centuries of history. The introduction of the wheel during the Greek colonization in the 8th century BC and the glazing technique by the Arabs in the 9th century resulted in ceramic objects that are both enduring and artistically rich.
